Tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day. Are you sweating what you’re going to put on your kid? I’ve got you.
You can use today’s tutorial on a tee you already have or a new one you’re sewing up. I used our free Cecilia Tee. Shrink the heart and add two pockets or making it bigger and add a full on kangroo pocket!
Either way you will have a happy Valentine’s outfit in no time. Let’s get started.
What you need:
A heart template. You can download ours HERE.
An existing Tee or a Tee pattern. Find our free Cecilia Tee HERE.
Your standard sewing supplies and fabric
Print and Cut or Trace your Heart pattern at your desired size.
Cut two hearts. I fold my fabric together to create two layers and cut both hearts at once.
Two fabric hearts!
Place your two hearts right sides together. You are going to sew all around the edge of the heart. The area in between the pins shows you were I will NOT be sewing. Leave that portion open.
Sew all around the edge at 1/4″. You may need to stop, put your needle down, lift your pressure foot, and pivot the fabric at your points.
Turn your heart right sides out. Press it, a lot. You should be tucking in the raw edges of the area you didn’t sew before you press.
See where I left it open? I’ve pressed the seam allowance in. This area is left open so you can turn your heart. Use your best judgement as to how big of a hole you will need based on your heart size.
Pin it to the front of your shirt. You can place your pocket where ever you like! I prefer to attach the pocket to the front of my shirt before I construct the shirt. If you are doing this keep in mine your side seams and hem when choosing your placement. Sew from pin to pin. Make sure to back stitch or bartack at the pins to give your pocket extra support.
Hello pocket! Your topstitching will close the opening where you turned your pocket. Construct the rest of your shirt. Or if you are using an existing tee, you’re done!
She’s super hard to catch standing still these days 🙂
Happy Valentines Day!
