Dress Shirt Refashion: PR&P

dress shirt refashion

The challenge for this week’s PR&P is the men’s shirt refashion. I started by disassembling my dress shirt. I took the shirt apart taking the pocket off the front and removing the band for the back of the shirt. This allowed the back pleat to open and give me more fabric.

I used the Brooklyn Frock pattern from Peek-a-Boo patterns for my inspiration to build the new neck.  I cut the back of the new top from the back of the shirt. I decided to use the shirts own placket/button opening to create the pattern’s placket. Cutting the front of the new top from the front of the shirt I off set the placket from center. I had a star print in my stash that I cut the neck ruffle and sleeves from.

My little Heart: PR & P Week 4

Paper Fan

The challenges of taking a picture of my not quite two year old in a dress? Nothing says SPIN SPIN SPIN like a dress. It’s sweet and fun and endlessly frustrating when trying to take a picture. This week for the Valentines theme on Project Run and Play I sewed up a version of the Paper Fan dress (free pattern yay!). I found this pattern after visiting Nest Full of Eggs. Check it out: the great fabric makes it easier to spot all the great features of this dress!

The only catch of the free pattern? It only sized down to a 2T. I’ve learned the hard way she is tall enough for a 2T, but she is just too narrow. She drowns in them. So I did some resizing. I’m pretty happy with it. I’ll bring the shoulder in a little more I think.

Super Dog Jacket- Sewing for Boys PR&P Week 3

Sewing for Boys Once Upon a Sewing Machine

It’s boy’s week over at PR & P! We have been really enjoying the super cuteness of the quilted girl jackets that have been floating around the blogsphere this fall/winter. And then I happened upon this pin on Stacey’s board.

I was sold. Now my little guy is really hard to coax into anything resembling a sweater/sweatshirt in this style so I knew I would need to adjust my plan. I used the Easy Linen Shirt pattern in Sewing for Boys as my base.  I sewed it up in a 4/5. It’s big on him, but I knew that was going to be the case. There is room in the body for him to grow and for now I think the cuffed sleeves work! My goal is to use this for a jacket in the Spring and hopefully Fall.

Spring Fever Dress, PR & P Week 2

Spring Fever Dress, Once Upon a Sewing MachineIs it too early for spring fever? Maybe huh? It just really got good and cold here in the Midwest.

You may recognize this dress pattern as one Rachel and I collaborated on around Thanksgiving. When we originally pulled this pattern we loved the vintage feel and I really do like the look of this little dress. While trying to make this dress the first time, we had many setbacks. The inset looked wonky, the sleeves did not fit the armholes and don’t get me started about the facings/lining.

Because I refused to be deterred and because I thought the stripes and dots challenge in PR&P would perfect for this project, I decided to try again, with some of my own variations.
