We are so pleased to be a contributing designer to the One Thimble #15. OT is an online magazine full of tips, tutorials and full patterns. The beauty of this magazine is that you can store the entire thing online, in your Dropbox or in the cloud. It does not need to take up space in your sewing room and you can access the patterns at any time. If you have a smart phone, you can even access yardage information while at the fabric store!
Our pattern in this issue is the Miriam. It is a classic pleated skirt with a high waistband. The skirt can be made out of any woven fabric. A lightweight chino would be perfect for spring/summer. I have made this version in a baby wale corduroy. A tiny floral print in the waistband is a perfect fun accent.
It also works well in a denim. You can be as creative as you like with this skirt. One gal added buttons to the waistband to give it the nautical feel.
It has a side zipper which is installed using the standard center zip application. There are full instructions for constructing pleats as well as installing the zipper. The waist is fitted and because sometimes your child’s waist and hip measurement may not fall into the same size, there are instructions on how to blend sizes.
To go with the Miriam, I have sewn the #116 V-neck cardigan by Thread Faction. This pattern is included in this issue of One Thimble also. This versatile sweater is gender neutral and is made up in a knit fabric.
Liz gives you great tips on how to choose fabrics and how to determine the correct size for your child. I made mine in a sweater /sweatshirt knit. It is a bit heavier to carry Ms Little through the spring and into the fall. I did size up so that she would be able to wear it later in the year as well. This slim fit cardigan can be made in a lightweight jersey and would be perfect for layering. Check out the other fabric choices pictured in the magazine.
These are only two of the patterns available when you purchase the OT #15. The 200 plus page e-zine also contains other tutorials and tips from your favorite designers. Pick yours up or check out the other patterns here.
