I’ve been taking a bit of a maternity leave from the sewing machine, but I got the itch and was lucky enough to be chosen as a tester for Baste and Gather’s new pattern the Birkin Flares. The timing was great because I’m in need of some clothes that fit.
I’m in that great post partum phase where none of my clothes fit particularly well. Custom jeans were just what I needed!
The Birkin Flares have a higher waistline and fitted and flared leg. Being able to blend sizes and tweak finalized fit makes for a pair of comfortable jeans- just what I needed.
Sewing jeans for myself was a little intimidating at first but the pattern walks you through it one step at a time. I do highly recommend sewing up a muslin first to help you get your sizing just right.
I’m 5’4″ and I shortened up my jeans about 5 inches. Trucking around with kids I’m in a flatter boot most of the time.
I’m pumped to have a pair of well fitting jeans in my drawer. There is a skinny version currently in the works. Ideal for those of us that will will be sporting boots in the snow and rain for the next few months!
