BumbleBee Dress Tour {Giveaway}

Bumblebee dress, pattern by Sewing Mama Raeanna

Welcome to those of you visiting while you tour with RaeAnna’s very cute Bumblebee dress!

The dress includes two views, a sleeveless dress with ruffling around the neck, and the 3/4 sleeve version that I sewed up. I choose to make a few quick adjustments to match my mood and fabric choices. It’s always nice when a pattern lends itself to easy switch ups!

I switched up the ruffle at the sleeve for a quick cuff. Since the sleeve fits nicely over her arm the button is just sewn on to hold the cuff together, it’s purely decorative. The best kind of button.

Bumblebee dress, pattern by Sewing Mama RaeannaI used piping in the bodice as oppose to the ruffle. I will admit to some late night sewing decisions. I made the piping from two different scrap pieces without really thinking it through. The result was 2 very different pieces of piping, which I didn’t notice at all until the bodice was assembled. I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. I knew I didn’t want to rip it out….

Bumblebee dress, pattern by Sewing Mama RaeannaI found once it was on her I actually really like it. The seem ripper gets a break this time! The orange print is a fine corduroy and the blue is a bit of a mystery chunk. It’s very soft and has a stretch to it. I wish I had more of it, I want to make something for me out of it!

I tried to grab modeled pictures at the library- she was too busy to be bothered with standing still for a good shot 🙂

She loves the full skirt. I put it on her and she announced, “Princess!” Which these days is equivalent to “I like this and will wear it.” It’s such a nice fit and easy sew I see more of these in our future.

Make sure to visit the other stops on the tour to see all the great versions being sewn up. Scroll down to enter in the giveaway.

    Love your version of the Bumblebee dress! The different piping works well.

    The dress is very cute! I like the contrasting sleeve cuffs and piping.

    Wonderful job! I like the piping too and wouldn’t change it! It’s perfect! I hope she got a lot of comments on how pretty she was while you were at the library! Isn’t that the best feeling when our kids are out in public and people compliment you on their clothes?! LOL! Thank you so much for participating in the tour!

    I love the colors and the different piping is fun. Glad you didn’t have to use the seam ripper! And it’s not pink! Glad she loved it.

    I didn’t realize that pattern went up to size 12! I love the full skirt too, and the cute buttons in back! Your mismatched piping is a total win; I’ve been seeing stuff like that in stores. Like a tshirt with red cover stitching, except one sleeve which was cover stitched in another color. I love it!

    LOVE your version!!!!! Great twist.

    I love this! I am not a huge fan of ruffles, so the bumblebee dress has not been one of my favorites. But I adore yours! Piping and a simple cuff tone down the frilly while keeping the integrity of the dress. Fantastic job! I also love the colors you used, and that little accidental piping detail works so well.

    Your fabric choices are darling! I absolutely adore this dress!

    I love your version! The colors and the non ruffles and piping. Even though I love the ruffles on my own versions I can see the potential of your version as well, it ‘s one of the great things about this pattern.

    I too considered sewing piping instead of the ruffles in my latest Bumblebee but since the dress I was refashioning already had this beautiful ruffles, I used them. Your dress is so cute!
