The ICON Coat

Rachel and I were able to test the ICON Coat for the recently released Fall Lookbook by See Kate Sew.  I have not sewn a coat in years and was in desperate need of a coat for the transition season now upon us.  So I gave it a whirl.

ICON coat
I made my version out of a medium weight suiting with a rayon lining.  I love the easy flow of this coat and the comfortable feel of it.  The pattern comes with a long and a three quarter sleeve option.  It’s hard to know which feature of this coat I like the best.  I love the stand up collar and the band at the cuff.  The classic look of the coat makes it easy to wear with jeans and just as easy to dress it up and wear it with a skirt.  ICON Coat liningThe back of the coat has a large pleat the can be left open or sewn down.  The other amazing thing about this pattern is that it comes in a very wide range of sizes from XXS to 3XL.  The welt pockets are easy to insert with great instructions and give the coat a real professional look.ICON coat pocketICON coat backI wore my coat to a family event shortly after I finished it and received a request from my sister to make her one as well.  The coat I made for her is corduroy with a flannel lining.  She loves it and will carry her deep into the fall and early winter.  The pattern is designed for wool or corduroy or a similar weight fabric that has body but an easy drape.

Kate’s Fall Lookbook has six patterns, The ICON Coat, the just released Dreamer Top, as well as The Neptune Tee, The Zippy Top, The Penelope Peplum and The Everyday Maxi.  If you prefer paper patterns, you will be happy to know that the ICON Coat will be released in a paper version in a few weeks and is in pre-order now. Be sure to go over and get all the details.
