Maternity Grown Up Thumbs Up- Neckline Hack

Grown Up Thumbs Up PDF pattern

I was getting bored with the 5 maternity shirts in my rotation and decided it was time to sew up another choice! I’ve had this maternity Grown Up Thumbs Up prepped and partially cut for awhile now- it was stuck in the WIP zone. No more!

I sewed up the shorts sleeve version, so no thumb holes on this one! I used the (included with the womans pattern) maternity add-on. Now I’ve had this cut for a bit, so the bust measurement isn’t quite where I need it to be. I’ll likely adjust for the next top I make.
I did a quick hack on the neckline. The included necklines on this top are all high. In the heat of the summer, and with my current proportions I prefer a much deeper neck.

I made a really fast adjustment. I compared a top neckline I like to where the armscye hit. Then I used the professional sewing tool- a salad plate- to get my curve. Make sure you pull up to meet the existing shoulder. Here is my instagram picture.

neckline hackAfter I sewed up the top as instructed I took a measurement around my new neckline. Take 80% of that number. That’s how long my new neckband is. I’m using a rib knit, you may need to adjust that based on the recovery and stretch of your knit.

This looks so good on you…. Some women have this amazing ability to only look pregnant in the belly – you! You’re so cute! I love the scoop neck, and it seems we both have that professional sewing tool in our home. 😉
