Pretty light blouses and big fluffy pom poms is a pretty good way to start a weekend no? Today I’m sharing two more patterns from the newly released One Thimble Issue 15.

The magazine features regular columns, additional project tutorials, technique instructional articles, and handmade business interviews and tips – and of course sewing patterns. I put her under a tree because it was starting to rain…she’s laughing because she’s totally getting smacked with huge raindrops. The good news is her giant faux fur pom beret is doing a fairly good job of protecting her. And has put her in such a good mood she can’t be bothered with a little bit of rain.

I actually didn’t have any faux fur on hand so I carted off to Jo-ann’s and picked up a small chunk. That stuff is never really on sale so this is a great opportunity to use that “only good on regular priced fabric” coupon that is always better than the sales prices! It was well worth the trip she literally stalked the bag insisting whatever that was meant for it should be put together right away. It was meant for Thread Faction’s beret. Liz gives several pom options, but this one was really just too tempting to pass up.

She styled it to look like a painter she tells me, she kept it on inside to color for quite a long time. The fun photo prop glasses are part of an early bird bonus going this weekend. My kids all had different favorites in the sheets of printables.

I paired the beret with the Phillipa Blouse from Bobkin Designs. This top offers a number of different options. I chose to not do pintucks, the vneck line, and regular sleeve. There are all instructions on how to create a number of different pintuck looks, a rounded neck option, and a cap sleeve.

I love a gathered elastic sleeve. I think the look is so sweet. But this kiddo will let you know right away if something is too snug. I used the exact elastic measurements and she was happy as a clam and wore the shirt all day (if she keeps something on after pictures it’s always a good sign).

I picked up this fabric thinking it would be light and great for this top and not really paying attention to the fabric make up. The drape is right- but it crushes like crazy and is for whatever reason really difficult to press. My machine was having a love hate relationship with it.

I was nearing the end and became concerned that it may be difficult to successfully get buttonholes in. While snaps was an option I felt like that wouldn’t be great on the lightweight fabric, even with interfacing. So I took a quick left turn and hacked in a zipper.

I am perhaps an odd duck in that I would prefer to put in a zipper over a row of buttons myself. What team are you on? Zippers or buttons?

What brilliant style! the blouse is so lovely in that fabric and the zip is a great touch- perfect decision! I also love the beret with it’s fluffy pom pom- so great!
