Sneaking in Some Self Sewing

The Parisian Top by Go to Patterns

It’s been a little crazy lately. In between pattern testing and working on our own projects, Rachel and I are trying to get some things sewn for ourselves.

The last time I sewed for myself was at Christmas and to say it was a disaster would be an understatement.   When I was a young mother I sewed all my own clothes.  There is no reason why this should be so difficult.   After much encouragement from Rachel, I decided to give it another go.

We have been excited about the release of the Just Add Jeans Patterns so I decided that I would jump in and try the Parisian.  The Just Add Jeans collection is no longer available, but you can buy the patterns separately.  The Parisian is a Go to Pattern available in her shop.

I love the collar and the three quarter sleeve.  The band at the bottom is relaxed but gives it just enough stability to cling just above the hip line.

Of course I fell in love with the stripe, so there were stripes to match as well.

This project was a WIN!  I love the fit, the stripes match well.  Hopefully this will be the encouragement I need to sew a few more things for myself.   I have just finished a muslin for the Washi Dress and I am hoping that the real thing goes as well.  After all why should the kids get all the good stuff?

Happy Sewing,

Donna it’s fantastic. LOVE the stripes, the fit is superb and the collar, sleeves and waist cuff give it a great, retro vibe. You should be pleased!

Good job getting all the stripes to match! I wear lots and lots of stripes. I wonder how the neckline would sit without the collar; maybe with a banded neckline? Since I am no longer creative director of my daughters clothes, I’ve been wanting to sew for me. But my last 3 or 4 attempts have been less than stellar. Keep sewing for you, it makes me want to not give up!!

COOL Parisian top you’ve sewn for yourself. The striped fabric with bright colors if FAB, as are the black collar, cuffs & bottom band. Looks practical for wearing everywhere. Sarah Helene in Minneapolis

Very well done! I’ve been thinking about that pattern. I always like a dressed up tee and wear things like that a lot. Great job with the stripes too.

Love your version of the top! The stripes match perfectly, the collar looks great! Just like you said, why should the kids get all the goodies 😉

Looks awesome! I am a beginner sewer but I know you must have spent forever to get those stripes lined up! I love the colors too and hate things at my wrist, so 3/4 sleeves are perfect for me too!
