I have long loved sewing with knits. I know that enthusiasm is not shared universally.
The good news is there are projects out there that can be easily tackled to convince you to come over to the knit side, and this is definitely one of them.
Liz from Thread Faction has not only released a really cute girls tank and bottoms set, she’s also released a series of videos to walk you through the construction. And bonus those tips you need to make sewing with knits a good experience.

The pattern is a downloadable PDF that includes both the tank and bottoms in a nice size range of 2-10. Which easily covers both my girls.
I’ve recently been having a hard time getting the fit right on my oldest. I had bumped up her size but honestly had been kind of limping along assuming this stuff fit small! I finally did a full remeasure on her and found her trunk measurement was 2 sizes longer than I had been accounting for lol. Summer growth spurts!
I like that the pant portion of the pattern has a wider band at the leg. They make perfect underwear for my toddler who is transitioning out of diapers. For my older girl, they’re good for summer sleepwear- though once she put them on she was madly in love so I think we’ll be filling out the underwear drawer too.
My kids can never get their clothes on going in the right direction without tags. So I sewed in a soft ribbon when finishing up the waistband of the bottoms.
I’ve never sewn tank straps in the manner that this pattern has them go together. I was a little nervous they were going to end up wonky. But I’m really happy with both the finish and length. The last time I made a tank with a strap style I had to keep shortening the strap because it was soooooo long.
Still not sure? Want to see the whole thing go together?
