The Little Red Jumper- Day 3 KCWC

Little Red JumperI have to admit this is my recovery outfit. The outfit meant to go into this post was a sewing fail. Yep it happens! I was trying to convert one of our go-to summer dresses to a fall/winter jumper. The fabric was too thick, the adjustments I made didn’t do quite what I expected. I was bummed. So as a pick me up. I put together this quick jumper. You can do it too. In 30 minutes or less with half a yard of fabric and two buttons.

I picked up a piece of remnant fleece and pulled these buttons out of the stash, so this jumper cost me about 2.00. First cut out your body. You need a front and back.

little red jumperSew up you side seams, right sides together.

*Sewing tip- it doesn’t matter if you sew the seam top to bottom or bottom to top, but make sure you sew both seams the SAME direction

Here is the benefit of fleece, it isn’t going to fray. I left most of my edges unfinished. So these straps are ready to go!

I did turnover the top of the jumper and stitch it. But I left the bottom hem just a straight cut line.

little red jumperReinforce your strap by attaching it with a stitched box. I only went diagonal once, but an X will be even stronger reinforcement.

little red jumperI put the jumper on my little model and pulled the strap over. Then I simply snip a slit in the strap where the button lands.

little red jumperI feel victorious in the sewing room once again! She’s still suspicious after yesterdays fitting debacle- can you tell?

little red jumperDon’t worry baby the pictures will be over soon!

I’m struggling now that the cold weather is here to find a good spot to take pictures. Where do you take pictures when the sun gone and your banished inside?

Happy Sewing,

Good recovery project! It looks like a great piece to throw over a long sleeve knit shirt and leggings when it’s cold.:)

Girls are so nice to layer clothing for- feels easier than with boys!

We all have fails!!! Sounds like you made the right decision to leave it and make this cute little jumper. In Australia, we call this outfit a pinafore. For us, a jumper is the same shape as a sweater, but knitted.

Isn’t it funny how we use words a little differently! I’m familiar with the term pinafore, but it would never leap to mind first.

This is sweet! I love how easy it is, the perfect things for wearing with leggings in the fall. Cozy but still meets my daughters requirements of wearing a dress!

Yep! Once it gets colder my cozy requirements increase 😉

Great recovery effort 🙂 The jumper looks great! As for taking pics when it is cold… I just wait till sun is out and we head outside 🙂
