One Thimble Issue 11 has just released! I’m excited to be sharing two patterns included in the quarterly Australian ezine that I was given a chance to preview and sew up. Let’s take a peek at some baby feet!
The Wild Things baby slippers include 7 different animal faces to create fun slip on baby shoes. I choose to make the bunnies. It was freezing the day I sewed these up so the cord and leather called to me from my fabric stash. I lined them in a soft flannel. They’ve been great to slide her on cold spring days.
Since she’s just starting to crawl I took the patterns advice and used a non slip grip fabric on the outside of sole.
I’ve never actually sewn baby slipper/shoes. It was a really fun process. It’s been awhile since I didn’t know exactly what was going to happen as pieces went together. It was exciting to follow the steps flip it over and go- oh hey look a shoe! To the patterns credit while I had no idea what I was doing these shoes sewed up really quickly and I did no ripping. The pattern includes clear picture instructions.
I made these entirely out of my stash and I’m excited to sew up a more summery pair. The pattern gives great advice on upcycling for these also. It will be hard to choose which animal to do next.
I’m really happy with the sizing they stay on her feet really nicely even though as a new crawler she is kicking and shimmeying her feet all over the place.
As a bonus after they do come off she loves playing with the little bunny ears 🙂
Fabric: Stash- Cord, flannel, non-slip, and leather
